Listed below are some of the essential sessions at AAO-HNSF 2024 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO focusing on rhinosinusitis, including treating chronic rhinosinusitis, when to perform revision sinus surgery and managing nasal and sinus disease. The sessions are arranged in chronological order for your convenience.

Disease Control in Chronic Rhinosinusitis: How to Measure It and Use It to Guide Treatment

  • Date/Time 9/28/24 @ 4:00 PM
  • Location: MBCC, 230
  • Description: Despite the traditional understanding of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) based on sinonasal symptoms, CRS presents with various other manifestations, each of which can be targeted for treatment. Given that CRS is an incurable condition, treatment decisions, such as the need for endoscopic sinus surgery or the use of biological medications, should be based on the patient’s CRS disease control rather than focusing on a single manifestation. The speakers will explore the importance of these outcome measures from the perspectives of patients and healthcare providers in enhancing patient satisfaction and quality of life, as well as from the standpoint of medical necessity and societal impact.

Great Debate: Chronic Rhinosinusitis Quandaries: Critical Questions and Debates on Utilization of Biologics

  • Date/Time: 9/29/24 @ 11:00 AM
  • Location: MBCC, Art Deco 228AB
  • Description: During this debate, four to five statements regarding the use of biologics in the management of chronic rhinosinusitis will be presented. The audience will be asked to indicate whether they agree or disagree with each statement. Subsequently, each speaker will present arguments either in favor or against the statement. Following the presentations, the audience will be surveyed again to gauge any changes in opinion.

Controversies in Medical and Surgical Management of Recalcitrant Chronic Rhinosinusitis: What Is the Evidence

  • Date/Time: 9/29/24 @ 2:30 PM
  • Location: MBCC, 230
  • Description: The management of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) that is resistant to medical and surgical intervention remains a significant challenge in the field. Despite advancements in treatment options for refractory CRS in recent years, there is still ongoing debate regarding the best way to utilize these therapies. The purpose of this panel presentation is to address the current controversies surrounding the medical and surgical management of resistant CRS, focusing on newly introduced therapies and the supporting evidence. The emerging systemic biologics will be discussed along with their effectiveness in treating different subtypes of CRS.

Revision Sinus Surgery: When, Why, How

  • Date: 9/29/24 @ 4:00 PM
  • Location: MBCC, Art Deco 229AB
  • Description: The decision-making process for determining the timing of revision endoscopic sinus surgery has become increasingly complex due to the emergence of new medical treatments, including innovative methods for steroid delivery and biologics that target inflammation. This session will explore how available data influences the decision-making process for revision endoscopic sinus surgery through case-based discussions. Anatomical factors such as paranasal sinus mucoceles, residual uncinate process, maxillary sinus recirculation, middle turbinate lateralization, frontal and sphenoid ostial stenosis, and frontal recess neo-osteogenesis, as observed on sinonasal imaging and endoscopy, will be examined to identify indicators of success for revision endoscopic sinus surgery.

Controversies in the Contemporary Management of Nasal and Sinus Disease

  • Date: 10/1/24 @ 8:00 AM
  • Location: MBCC, 225
  • Description: There are a variety of treatment options available for managing nasal and sinus conditions, leading to debates about the best practices for achieving positive outcomes, economic value, and patient and provider satisfaction. The panel consists of experienced rhinologists with nearly 20 years of clinical experience in the field of rhinology, who will be examining the various manifestations of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and how they can be measured using different outcome measures.
