USPSTF Announces Breastfeeding Recommendation Statement is Now Open for Public Comment

The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has recently released their draft recommendation statement on breastfeeding interventions. The statement, titled “Breastfeeding: Behavioral Counseling Interventions,” was published online on October 22, 2024.

According to the latest screening guidelines, the USPSTF recommends providing or referring pregnant and postpartum individuals to interventions that support breastfeeding. These recommendations serve as an update to the guidelines published in 2016 under the title “Breastfeeding: Primary Care Interventions.”

The draft recommendation statement and accompanying evidence review are currently open for public feedback. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments here by November 18, 2024.
