In the most recent edition of the Guidelines International Series, we delve into the latest guidelines released by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO). Established 90 years ago, the WGO is a federation comprising 119 Member Societies and four Regional Associations of gastroenterology, collectively representing more than 60,000 individual members globally. The organization’s mission is to raise awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals about the global prevalence and optimal treatment of gastrointestinal and liver disorders.

The guidelines developed by the WGO are crafted with a global perspective in mind and are accessible in multiple languages. These guidelines undergo a thorough process of authoring, editing, and peer review to ensure they are as evidence-based as possible. They are cascade-based, meaning they provide a hierarchical set of diagnostic or therapeutic techniques for the same disease, ranked according to the available resources. This ensures that healthcare professionals worldwide have access to standardized and reliable guidance for managing various gastrointestinal conditions.

The WGO typically releases 1-2 comprehensive international guidelines annually. Below, we present the guidelines published in the last five years.
