Document Objectives

This document provides an evidence-based clinical practice guideline on the outpatient management of infants, children, and adolescents with post-prematurity respiratory disease (PPRD).

Target Patient Population

Infants, children, and adolescents with PPRD.

PICO Questions

  1. Should infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD and who have respiratory symptoms (wheezing, cough, tachypnea) receive short- acting, inhaled bronchodilators?

  2. Should infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD and who have respiratory symptoms (wheezing, cough, tachypnea) routinely receive inhaled corticosteroids?

  3. Should infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD and who have respiratory symptoms (wheezing, cough, tachypnea) routinely receive diuretic therapy?

  4. Should all infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD undergo baseline diagnostic PSG?

  5. Should all infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD undergo a swallow evaluation?

  6. Should all infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD undergo airway endoscopy?

  7. Should all infants, children, and adolescents born preterm (gestational age less than 37 wk) with PPRD undergo diagnostic imaging for TBM?
