Target Patient Population

Patients with prosthetic joint infection (PJI)

Target Provider Population

Infectious disease specialists, orthopedists, and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with prosthetic joint infection (PJI)

PICO Questions

  1. What preoperative evaluation and intraoperative testing should be performed to diagnose PJI and what is the definition of PJI?

  2. What different surgical strategies should be considered for treatment of a patient with PJI?

  3. What is the medical treatment for a patient with PJI following debridement and retention of the prosthesis?

  4. What is the medical treatment for a patient with PJI following resection arthroplasty with or without planned staged reimplantation?

  5. What is the medical treatment for a patient with PJI following 1-stage exchange?

  6. What is the medical treatment for a patient with PJI following amputation?
