- Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic necrotizing vasculitis that affects primarily medium-sized vessels.
- The most common clinical manifestations are:
- systemic: fever, weight loss
- neurologic: mononeuritis multiplex, peripheral neuropathy
- cutaneous: nodules, livedo reticularis
- renal: hypertension
- gastrointestinal: abdominal pain
- Diagnosis is generally confirmed by tissue biopsy of an affected organ, or angiography if tissue biopsy cannot be obtained.
